Roughly every year,  Kobold Quarterly hosts a monster design contest called “King of Monsters.” Participants must design a new original monster with descriptive text and an accompanying statblock for the D&D or Pathfinder roleplaying games. I designed the last champion, the horakh – an insect that eats eyes balls and hunts in packs. This year, I decided to do something different. I designed a queen. Who knows? Maybe Kobold Quarterly will have to change the name of the contest…
